about the fire yesterday on haggle circle just off of route 1 in lorton, virginia. eileen armstrong is credited with saving her two young sons and infant daughter. but there was nothing anyone could do to save armstrong and two other sons trapped inside. >> couldn't do anything. we couldn't get in. >> reporter: armstrong's surviving children and their father are in the washington hospital center's burn unit. some of them have life- threatening injuries. >>> a maryland man is among the nine troops killed in tuesday's helicopter crash in southern afghanistan. brendan looney became a navy officer in 2004. he later completed seal training. he lived in silver spring and graduated from dematha high school in 1999. tuesday's crash was the deadliest since may of 2006. >>> today afghanistan's army welcomed the first batch of female officers in decades. 29 women graduated from the kabul army training center. afghanistan and alternate have been pushing to expand training to increase the country's security forces. the women spent six months training and will work doing administrative work and w

. >>> a commuter alert now in virginia. state police are on the scene of a serious multicar crash on eastbound i-66. officials tell 9 news now all lanes of eastbound i-66 have been shut down after a collision involving at least three vehicles prior to the roosevelt bridge. we are just getting in good news from these motorists. it may not look like it on this shot but parts of the lane are open and some traffic is getting through in the area. fire officials say initial 918 calls indicated the motorist that caused the crash may have suffered an emergency. several victims were transported from the scene. again, some of the lanes of eastbound 66 have reopened but traffic will be delayed for a while there. >>> firefighters are keeping an eye on the burning rubble of what used to be two homes in northern virginia. still winds helped to spread the flames among several houses in manassas near summer lake. kristin fisher has the latest. >> reporter: kathy kennedy can't fight back the tears as she looks at what is left of her home, one day after the fire. >> it was huge. i have never seen something so big. t
of a virginia high school football player are coming to grips with his sudden passing. 17-year-old forest peterson was killed in a crash along brook road in stafford, virginia. he was a senior and varsity football player at brook point high school. investigators say peterson swerved to avoid an oncoming traffic and crashed friday night. he died on saturday. >>> a corn silo comes tumbling down in northern pennsylvania, and it's all caught on tape. it happened saturday as farmers rushed to get dairy cows out of a barn in the silo's path. none of the farmers or the cows were hurt. the barn that housed the cows was destroyed. police say this is the second time a silo has crashed on this farm. >>> some amazing video from inside a delta air lines jet as it made an emergency landing this weekend in new york. you can hear the flight attend apartment making sure her passengers stay safe. >> stay down, stay down, stay down! >> the video shows sparks out of the window on the flight from atlanta. the lapping gear on the right side couldn't come down. all 60 people got off safely. >> no, i really thin
